When I was trying to get published, I entered dozens, if not hundreds, of writing contests. A number of volunteer judges took the time to send me thoughtful, constructive advice that helped put me on the road to publication.

I accumulated a huge Karmic debt so, even after I became a multi-published author (major NYC publishers), I volunteered as a contest judge and made a point of giving thorough critiques with practical, easy-to-follow advice. Responses were so positive that I polled editors and agents about the things most likely to make them reject (or accept) a manuscript, and developed a workshop, along with an associated series of online articles.

When workshop attendees and people reading the articles began to offer me money to review their manuscripts, I started Book Rx .
